Story
Your father has recently passed away, and among the people there to pay respects was a man by the name of Takakura. A close friend of your father's, Takakura tells you that he and your father both had the same dream: to find a small farm out in the country somewhere and run it together. They finally found an abandoned farm in a place called Forget-me-not Valley. Since your father has passed on, it is decided that you will take his place. Thus, you and Takakura come to the valley, ready to start a new life. The game spans 30 years, divided into 6 chapters, each chapter being one to three years long. You can raise crops, raise animals, get married, raise a child, interact with the villagers, and much more.

- Takakura's house: This place never changes, the interior will only change once Tartan comes along.
- Tool Shed: Where you store tools you don't want to carry, the milking room is built right in back of it.
- Food storage room: Where you can ship items to town, order items and animals, and sell animals. Just put down what it is you want to do in the notebook, and Takakura will do it for you. There is also a large freezer inside where you can store milk, eggs, and produce. The production room is built right next to it.

-
Fields:
You have three fields you can plant your crops and trees on.
Each one has a different degree of fertility and affect what types of crops can grow in each one.
The trees can be planted in any one of the three fields.
- The small field closest to your house is the Least Fertile field. The crops you can plant here are the first generation group. If you plant a 2nd or a 3rd generation crop in your Least Fertile field, there's a very good chance that it will die before becoming mature.
- The middle field next to watering well is the Somewhat Fertile field. You can plant a 1st generation or 2nd generation crop here, but if you plant a 3rd generation crop it will end up dying.
- The last field furthest away from your house is the Most Fertile field. You can plant any type of crop here. This field is the only one you can plant 3rd generation crops on, unless you use the Gemsoil enhancement with Tartan.
Crops
All crops are non-renewable even if the plant is still there after you harvest it, nothing will grow on it. It's best just to chop it down and plant something else. Only third generation crops can be sold to town. One thing you'll notice right away about Vesta's farm is how she plants her crops. They're arranged in a checkerboard pattern, this greatly reduces the amount of plants you can grow, but they will grow faster and won't need to be watered as often.

Hybrid Crops & Trees
To make hybrid crops just take your bags of fruit or seeds and talk with Tartan, a two-headed plant living in Takakura's house. Then give it the two plants you want to mix together and Tartan will do the rest. To aquire this odd talking plant, you must be in Chapter 2 of the game. Go into Takakura's house and you might jump into an event where Tartan mysteriously takes root in Takakura's bedroom. If you want Tartan to mix plants, you have to become friends with it. Talk to it every day and after a season or so Tartan will give you the option to mix plants.
You can't mix together a tree plant with a crop plant. Tartan won't mix crops with a 100% success rate either. It may fail several times before the mix results in a hybrid crop. And if you mix together a B-rank crop and an A-rank crop, your successful result will be an A-rank. You can enhance your crops seeds (cannot on tree seeds), just bring Tartan a Happy Lamp (to grow any season), a Gemsoil (to grow in any field), or an Upseed Flower (to upgrade to S-rank) and a bag of seeds.
