General Information

"Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward" is a visual novel and adventure video game developed by Chunsoft, sequel of "Zero Escape: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors". Known in Japan as きょくげんだっしゅつADV ぜんにんシボウデス [Kyokugen Dasshutsu ADV: Zennin SHIBOU DESU]. The Japanese title has two meanings: "Extreme Escape ADV: Good People Die" or "Extreme Escape ADV: Want to be a Good Person". It also often abbreviated as VLR. It is the second entry of the Zero Escape series and introduced 3D character models and environments, with 22 endings total.

The game first published for Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita / PlayStation TV in Japan at 16 February 2012 by Spike. North America version published at 23 October 2012 by Aksys Games. Europe version published at 23 November 2012 by Rising Star Games. Nintendo eShop version published at 22 August 2013. At 24 March 2017, the game got remastered for PS4, Vita & PC, and bundled with "Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors" under the name "Zero Escape: The Nonary Game".

The story follow Sigma Klim, who got abducted and placed in empty facility with other 8 people, with his main partner being a mysterious girl named Phi. They are forced to play "Nonary Game: Ambidex Version"; life-or-death games involving needled bracelet filled with deadly poison, allying & betraying other players, exploring the facility & escape the room-riddled-puzzle in order to survive & escape while figuring out why they were kidnapped and who Zero is.

A short 12 minute anime was released for the game as a promotional. It briefly introduces the characters and very brusquely retells the introduction of the game. Here the anime with Japan dub and with English dub


Gameplay

The game divided into two sections; story section and escape section. Story section contain the majority of the game narrative and where player make choice that go into different routes. Escape section contain puzzle-filled room that player must solved in order to open the door to the next area.
