Story
Your grandfather's spirit appears to you, asking you to renovate his farm. You have a year to bring the farm back to fruition. After the year has passed, your grandfather will evaluate how well you did your job. You can choose to play as a girl or boy.

- Sprinkles: Water 3x3 squares. To obtain trigger Watering Can Upgrade event.
- Sickle: Cut weed & Grass.
- Golden Sickle: Cuts 3x3 squares. To obtain trigger Sickle Upgrade event.
- Hoe: Till the ground.
- Super Hoe: Tills six squares in row. To obtain trigger Hoe Upgrade event.
- Hammer: Break rock in 1 hit, boulder 6 hit, flattening the ground and remove broken fences.
- Super Hammer: Break rock and boulder in 1 hit. To obtain given for free from Carpenter after upgrade house.
- Brush: Groom Cow. To obtained buy from Tool Shop.
- Cow Bell: Make your Cow walk toward you. To obtain given for free when purchased first Cow.
- Saddlebags: Make your horse a portable shipping bin. To obtain buy at Tool Shop when your horse mature.
- Milker: Milk your Cow. To obtained buy at Tool Shop.
- Chicken Feed: Feed your Chicken. To obtained buy at Animal Shop.
- Cow Feed: Feed your Cow. To obtained buy at Animal Shop.
- Medicine: Cure a sick Cow. To obtained buy at Animal Shop.
- Cow Miracle Potion: Make your Cow pregnant. To obtained buy at Animal Shop.
- First Aid Kit: Prevent Cow getting sick for a season. To obtained buy at Animal Shop on Year 2 onward.
Building
- Farmhouse: Where you lived. You could upgrade your house twice.
- Cow Barn: Where your Cows live. Capacity 4 Cows.
- Silo: Where the cut Grass (Fodder) stored. The sign outside will tell you how many pieces of Fodder you own.
- Chicken Coop: Where your Chickens live. Capacity 4 Chickens.
- Tool Shed: Where all of your Tools and Crop Seeds are stored. There a notebook to see how many Seeds you have. The backdoor lead to Harvest Sprites Cave.

- Where the Harvest Sprites live. There’s 3 of them. West exit take you to mining cave, north exit take you to Harvest Goddess Lake, and east exit take you to Hot Springs.

- Maria is in charge of the Church. She will tell fortune and pray to Harvest Goddess. Randomly the Harvest Goddess will come and bless your Cow (the blessed Cow never get unhappy and produce Large Milk immediately).

- Nina come to your house and ask if they can have a picnic on your farm. Tell her "Yes" and next morning you'll be invited to go with them. The participant was Maria, Nina, and Ellen. Talk to all of them and you'll be back inside your house at 06:00 PM.
- Summer Night
- Requirement: Summer 20
- Character: Ann, Eve
- Ann and Eve come to your farm at 06:00 PM to invite you enjoying the night with them. Talk to them and you'll back at your house at 09:00 PM.
- Ax upgrade
- Requirement: experience Earthquake (Summer)
- Character: Carpenter
- Carpenter come to your house and checking if you and your farm is alright. Go to Harvest Sprite cave and break the rock that fallen on top of Harvest Sprites with your Hammer. The boulder that block the lake is gone and there’s sign tells you to not throw your tools. Toss your Ax anyway, Harvest Goddess appear and ask if you dropped your Golden Ax into the lake. Tell her "No" (since you didn't own a Golden Ax) and she'll give you the Golden Ax for being honest.
- Free Cookies
- Requirement: Fall 12
- Character: Ellen
- Ellen come to your house and give you cookies since she makes too much for Harvest Festival. You automatically accept and eat the cookies.
- Moonlight Night
- Requirement: Winter 24 06:00 PM
- You are invited to watch the moon with the rest of the girls in the village. Ellen give you cake and after you talk with Eve, the event over and you back on your house at 09:00 PM.
- New Year’s Day
- Requirement: Spring 1
- Character: Maria
- Maria come to your house and wish you a Happy New Year.
- Watering Can upgrade
- Requirement: Use hoe 200 times
- Character: Ann
- Ann come to your house and says she can upgrade your Watering Can into a Sprinkler, but it will take 7 days (fortunately she doesn't take away your Watering Can in order to upgrade it). After 7 days go to her shop and she sell it for 2,000 G. Once you purchase the Sprinkler, you'll lose your Watering Can.
- Sickle upgrade
- Requirement: Harvest your first Grass
- Character: Harvest Sprites
- Harvest Sprites will ask you if your Sickle is sharp enough. If you answer "Yes", he will upgrade your Sickle and wants you to return in 12 real time hours (turn on the Timer). Your upgraded Sickle will automatically on the bench inside your Tool Shed.
- Hoe upgrade
- Character: Harvest Sprites
- Harvest Sprites will ask you if your Hoe plows well. If you answer "Yes", he will upgrade your Hoe and wants you to return in 24 real time hours (turn on the Timer). Your upgraded Hoe will automatically on the bench inside your Tool Shed.
- Egg Girl
- Requirement: have a Chicken
- One day a little girl visits your farm to purchase an Egg. Allow her to gather an Egg and she'll pay you 75 G. Few days later she come again, tell you she paid too much and asks 5 G in change.
- Hurricane Bob
- During Summer, a hurricane will blow and you're stuck in your house all day.
- Lost bird
- Character: Ellen
- Ellen come to your house and ask you to find her lost bird. You’ll find it on the sign post next to your Silo.
- Hammer upgrade
- Character: Carpenter
- Upgrade your house once and the Carpenter will give you Super Hammer for free.
- New Drinks
- Character: Eve
- Eve come to your house and give you a new drink to try called Wild Grape Juice. She now starts to sells the Wild Grape Juice. Next time she will gives you Apple Juice and she starts to sell that too. Also, once your cows begin to produce Milk, she sells that too.
- Find Nina
- Character: Maria, Nina
- Maria come to your house and asks you to help her find Nina. Go to Harvest Sprite Cave and you find her there. You back to your house at 06:00 PM.
- The Weathervane
- Character: Ann
- Ann come to your house and tell that her weathervane blown into the direction of your farm. Look in front of your Tool Shed.
- Maria Stays Over
- Character: Maria
- Maria come to your house and begs you to let her stay for a few nights. On fourth day, Mayor comes to beg his daughter to come home. Maria ran away because the Mayor had arranged marriage for her.
Note: Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console version of Harvest Moon GBC does not support the trade system.
Use telephone on your house to open the Ranch Center.
- Cow: Trade Cow. You also can trade pregnant Cow. If you trade Calf with Cow, it will automatically grow to Cow.
- Chicken: Trade Chicken. You have 1 in 64 chance to get Golden Chicken when trading.
- Pet: Trade Pet.
- Seed: Trade Seed. You can trade 1 bag of seeds at a time.

- Check the dresser next to your bed, you'll find 1,000 G
- Fall and Winter Crops
- If your name starts with capital letter, you'll get Carrots and Eggplants. If your name starts with lower case letter, you’ll get Broccoli and Peanuts. If your name starts with symbol, you'll get all 4 crops.
- Extra Seeds
- Note: only work if you play as Girl
- You will get a bag of Grass seeds, Turnip seeds, Potato seeds, and Watering Can for free.
- Adult Cow
- Note: only work if you play as Boy
- Purchase your first Cow and name the first letter using symbol. Purchase a second Cow and don't name using a symbol. The first Cow you buy will automatically be an adult and able to produce Medium Milk.
- Infinite Eggs
- When you have an Egg near the Shipping Box, water it with Watering Can. It will become a fence but it will turn into an Egg when you pick it up and it’s endless.
On Winter 30 Grandpa's Spirit will return and give you an evaluation. If you met his criteria he will give you a gift. If not he will enlarge your farm size.

Timer
Harvest Sprites will work on your farm when your Gameboy turned off. Also, it’s the only way the Harvest Sprites upgrade your Hoe and Sickle. And the Timer doesn't turn off automatically when you continue your game, so make sure to turn it off when you are finished using it.
