General Information
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney a visual novel adventure game developed & published by Capcom. This game was the first entry of Ace Attorney series and have few spin-off game based on it. The game first released under the name 逆転裁判 (Gyakuten Saiban / lit. Turnabout Trial) for Game Boy Advance and later change to 逆転裁判 蘇る逆転 (Gyakuten Saiban Yomigaeru Gyakuten / lit. Turnabout Trial: Revived Turnabout) from Nintendo DS version onward.
The game first released for Game Boy Advance at Japan on 12 October. Nintendo DS version released at Japan on 15 September 2005, at North America on 12 October 2005, and at Europe on 16 March 2006, with touchscreen and microphone support, alongside with new episode. Windows version released at Japan on 23 December 2005. Wii version was episodic release, the first four released first at Japan on 15 December 2009 and North America & PAL on January 2010, the last episode released at Japan on 16 March 2010 and North America & Pal on May 2010. iOS version released at Japan on 21 December 2009 and at North America on 24 May 2010.
The story follows Phoenix Wright, a rookie attorney tackling cases to prove his client's innocence and verdict "Not Guilty". And he only have 3 days to prove them innocent according to in-game justice system. To do that you must find evidence by investigating crime scene, speak to people involved in the case, and cross-examine the witnesses.
Gameplay
The game split into 2 modes, Trial mode and Investigation mode. And at any time you could access your Court Record, where your Evidence and Profiles are stored with more detailed information.
Trial mode where you defend your client on court trial.
- Exclamation Point: Your health are represented by 5 exclamation point and it will appear when making important decision. One point will be deduced when making mistake and once you lost all the point, your client will be declared 'Guilty' & game over.
- Cross Examination: Every witness testimony must be examined, either by pressing certain statement to get more information or presenting evidence to contradicting statement. Pressing generally safe from penalty until told otherwise and presenting wrong evidence or presenting at wrong statement will result on getting penalized.
Investigation mode where you looking around various places to gather evidences for next day trial.
- Examine: This mode allowing you to examine your surrounding (a.k.a background) to gather hint or get new evidence.
- Talk: Sometimes there's people on the area you're visiting and you could talk to them to get more information. The conversation topic will had red checkmark if you already talked about that topic.
- Present: Sometimes you need to present evidence to people to get more hint and presenting unrelated evidence won't cost health like in trial mode.
Episode 5 give the game new feature of examine evidence in 3D and scientific test using luminol and fingerprinting kit.
